Kioxia Gains Approval of its Green Gas Emission Reduction Targets by SBTi

Kioxia Holdings Corporation, a world leader in memory solutions, today announced that its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as science-based targets (SBT)*1.

SCIENCE BASED TARGETS

SBT approved greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets (Base year: FY2024, Target year: FY2035)

  • 63.0% reduction in Scope 1*2 and Scope 2*2 greenhouse gas emissions
  • 67.0% reduction per gigabyte of sold products in Scope 3*2 (Category 1 and Category 2) greenhouse gas emissions from purchased goods and services and capital goods

Kioxia Group identifies climate change as one of its sustainability materiality issues and aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its business activities by FY2050, and 100% renewable energy usage by FY2040. As an interim milestone toward these goals, the Group has obtained approval from the SBTi for its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and is working to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities by promoting energy conservation through more efficient production processes and expanding the use of renewable energy.

Kioxia Group will continue to promote initiatives aimed at realizing a net-zero economy and contribute to the achievement of a sustainable society.

  1. A greenhouse gas emissions reduction target based on scientific evidence consistent with the standards required by the Paris Agreement validated by the SBTi.
    SBTi is an international initiative that promotes the setting of science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for companies and provides third-party validation of these targets to support the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

  2. Scope 1: Direct emissions of greenhouse gases by business operators themselves (fuel combustion, industrial processes)
    Scope 2: Indirect emissions associated with the use of electricity, heat and steam supplied by other companies
    Scope 3: Indirect emissions other than Scope 1 and Scope 2 (emissions by other companies related to business activities)
